One research project I did was the Louisiana State Festivals project for Mrs. Brewer. To me, research is getting detailed, accurate information from a reliable source, and using it to your advantage. My festival project was a negative experience because the representative of the Delcambre Shrimp Festival never emailed me back, severely limiting my research.
2 - Reflection on Webbing Process (due Tuesday, April 8)
1. I think the webbing process helped/did not help me find a topic because: It helped me become a better researcher and I knew how to find better sources.
I think the webbing process helped me find a topic because it makes it easier to find helpful pages, and y ou can even hit ctrl+f to find certain words or phrases. 3 - Why I Chose This Topic and What I Know About My Topic (due Tuesday, April 8)
1. Topic: Horsepower
2. Why you chose it: I chose it because we've already studied it in science and it's one of the few things i'm actually interested in.
3. What you already know about your topic: That it is 746 watts, and it is a measurement of power. 4 - Pre-Notetaking Activity - in class (due Wednesday, April 9)
1. Brainstorm a list of questions related to your topic.
How does horsepower affect our lives today?
How is it defined?
Why was it invented before it was needed? 5 - Reflections on Pre-Notetaking - for homework (due Wednesday, April 9)
1. Describe how the pre-notetaking sheet helped you find both focus for your topic and research questions to investigate. Did you find it easy or difficult to create a fat question from your ideas?
It helped because it helped me focus on what I needed to do before I did it. I found it really hard to find my dangerously obese question because i'm not good at broad topics. 6 - Search Log (due Thursday, April 10)
1. What have I learned today? That one horsepower was equal to the power of 1 horse in 1806, but equal to 1.5 horses now.
2. What problems have I had? Making bibliographies takes me a long time.
3. How will I overcome the problem(s)? Try to get better at them.
4. What will I do next? Keep answering my questions in notecards. 7 - Search Log (due Friday, April 11)
1. What have I learned today? Sadly, not much :'(
2. What problems have I had? Finding relevant articles in the databases
3. How will I overcome the problem(s)? I'm not sure yet...
4. What will I do next? Try to finish!!!!!!! 8 - Search Log (due Monday, April 14)
1. What have I learned today? How to properly use the library catalogue
2. What problems have I had? Finding the right book
3. How will I overcome the problem(s)? Look Faster
4. What will I do next? Try to get my book reference out of the way.
